This is my own build of the civilian version of the Cant Z511 in 1/144 scale. I decided that making and sharing videos is much more convenient for me and more useful for viewers — a video conveys more information and can always be paused, but you will have to reload page to start it over. Below, I’ll be posting the stages of this build in video format. The same clips are also available on our Facebook page.
1. Removing supports and dry fitting
There’s nothing particularly difficult in this stage — you just need to remove the supports. For that, I use cutters I bought on Temu 🙂 Although I slightly modified them with sandpaper and a grinder — I made the cutting edges very thin so I can cut the supports as close to the part as possible.
Next, you need to sand the areas where the parts connect and remove any traces of the supports. To do this, place the sandpaper on a hard, flat surface so that you end up with a perfectly smooth joint.
2. Fuselage assembly
The kit includes two vacuformed canopies — just in case something goes wrong. I cut out the canopy with fine scissors, but it’s not very convenient. Harvey Low recommends an interesting tool for this in his article, but I couldn’t find it in our local stores.
STRONGLY RECOMMENDED: when gluing the parts together, first align them properly and only then apply ultra-thin cyanoacrylate glue along the joint. If you apply the glue before fitting the parts, there’s a risk they’ll stick together in the wrong position — and you’ll have to break the joint apart (as I unfortunately did).
